Welcome to our tropical island. Fort Myers Beach is a barrier island located in Lee County. Technically the community of Fort Myers Beach includes Estero, the larger 7 mile island and the smaller sister island called San Carlos. It is a well known island located south of Sanibel island and north of Bonita Springs and some 26 miles to Downtown Naples.

It main features is obviously its beach which is also 7 mile long and is known to be the Florida safest beach, at least it is one of the safest. its numerous canals splitting dozens of streets in its width in to the back bay or Estero Bay, its fishing which tradition goes back over 2000 years ago when the Calusa Indians: History of the Calusa Indians controlled a large part of southwest Florida, its many bars, Smokin' Oyster Brewery (S.O.B.) a local bar with good foodrestaurants, bistros and shops which all have that island touch, and its vibrant artistic community. It also has an outgoing center in downtown near the pier. Downtown FMB . Yes we are going through the Dog days of summer but I am glad we are part of this small community. I was also glad to see that my home appreciated 2.5% in the last 30 days. The deals are still here but these interested Fort Myers Beach Real Estate better move sooner then later. LiveJournal Tags: Fort Myers Beach real estate August 01 Sanibel island homes under $500,000, Captiva from $280K and upThe deals are still available in Sanibel, however there used to be more homes available even under $300,000 only a few months ago. The good news? Its till very affordable for such a glorious island where 2/3 of the land is protected. Sanibel homes under $500,000 I have looked at the listings and the market lately and it is clear that if you are serious about purchasing a Sanibel home or in Captiva, again I will say it clearly: its the time! Remember that these homes are bough for over 60 cents or less on the dollar compare to 2005-2006, granted they were inflated in these days, but the deals are here to be taken.Signs show that the asking prices are slowly stabilizing. Captiva , still has a few very exciting deals starting at $280,000 up to under $700,000. Captiva homes from $325K and up The one at an asking price of $325, 000, at 190 White Pelican dr,Captiva even though a cottage of 876 square feet got my attention. It offers much more then I first thought. Great possibilities to expand or just enjoy it as an island retreat or your own home!
Its located a short walk to the beach in North Captiva which you can reach only by boat.They do have “boat taxis” available form Sanibel. The total square footage is over 2,000 with a large deck and well designed pilings Sanibel home. I am sure one could make it bigger pretty easily if need be. Either way its a great deal. Cape Royal is unique. It is the only gated golf community to date in Cape Coral. It boats a pristine 27 holes two courses designed by Gordon Lewis, among dozen of lakes, tennis courses, a club house and single homes with oversized lots. Royal Tee Country Club stands out. If you are looking for a semi-private golf community which does not have a mandatory membership,has affordable course fees and annual membership, dozen of lakes and well designed Cape Coral pool homes, then don’t look any further: Cape Royal single homes price range from the low $200’s for over a million dollars.many of the homes have their own pools (not exterior bathtubs) and quite a few have both golf and lake views. These homes are well built, mostly with over 2000 with some up to 3700 square feet. It is semi-private community and annual fees range from $2,700 for a single, $3325 for a dual to $3,725 for a family and $4,750 for a corporate membership. Otherwise if not a member rates are seasonal and range from $20 to $69 in high season. Over 55 pay $27. Even though Cape Royal is technically located in Cape Coral off Pine island rd., it is not part of Cape Coral and residents pay Lee County taxes only. They actually get their water from Pine Island.It is a Championship course, but Gordon Lewis designed the tees in such a way that you may be a beginner or a scratch golfer and enjoy it. Either way you will be challenged. This is high living at its best in a great Cape Coral Golf Community without the membership fees but with a championship course. Gateway is a mega Fort Myers gated golf community encompassing 3,000 acres of shops, golf course, commercial properties and over a dozen of subdivisions. It is located off Daniels Pkwy a few miles from Southwest Fort Myers International Airport, close to community schools, hospitals, restaurants and shopping. About 20-25 minutes to the beach.Perhaps less but I don’t go much over the speed limit! It is a gated community and you will be stopped by a guard at the gate and asked to show an ID or something relevant that shows whom you are.. I know because my Real Estate business card has a picture of my dog..and that did not suffice.http://www.gatewaygolf.com/
Gateway has the reputation to be one of the premier gated golf community in Fort Myers with a formidable choice of amenities, ranging from tennis, large club house, golf of course, biking and jogging trails,dog park, exercise rooms, community park, dinning areas, swimming pools and clubhouse. The 18 hole 72 par Gateway Golf & Country Club course was designed by Tom Fazio and is regularly rated among the top Golf courses in Florida. Then again any community which has a dog park is a big plus in my book. Among these different areas of Gateway the slide includes a small tour of Gateway subdivisions Mohagony Link and Mohagony Run 2 single homes in the mid to high $400,000. These were picked due to their generous square footage, over 2400 each, their pools facing lake views and the craftsmanship of these homes. You do not have to belong to the Golf Club…one thing is sure: they cannot build between you and the course. It is indeed one of the most well planned community in the area and a pleasure to the eye.Fort Myers Gateway deserves a long look.

July 23 Ft. Myers Beach Town Manager fired due to Porn Star WifeThis is not right. “Fort Myers Beach town manager Scott Janke was fired Tuesday after it recently came to light that his wife is an adult film actress who goes by the name of "Jazella Moore," FLORIDA TODAY news partner The News-Press of Fort Myers reports.” When Scott Janke took the job in April of 2008 many of us were elated that we had a pro active Town Manager. At each town meetings he seemed well prepared and ready to take the town in another direction: basically get things done! If its the beach nourishments, the master zoning plan, the Newtown house project to renovate this historical landmark, the commercial signs, the parking meters, the new drainage system et..he always was on top of his game.We all liked him.He was a strong source of knowledge and enthusiasm.He looks like a bold Hemingway.
Basically he was fired because his wife is a porn star actress” told councilman Bob Raymond. He has one week to clean up his affairs and finish whatever project he can finish. Fort Myers Beach always pried it self in being a family oriented city/island that is another reason why the town decided to fire him. What is a bit strange is who was goggling porn starts biographies in the first place? ..and specially the Adult Industry News Web site".Odd hobby or detective work?
Some think that he shouldn’t have to pay for his wife’s profession..others believe that a public figure should have higher standards and be accountable. Many residents question the decision to fire Scott Janke. One thing I know is that Scott Janke wouldn’t have been hired if he had disclosed the profession of his wife. On the other side its not like it comes up in the interview. Either way I think the town did the right decision. Its a shame because he was a pretty good City Manager. Its a great place to refill your batteries and go kayaking, fishing, or go boating. The small community has less then 400 residents, but don’t let it fool you, this is a fun place to be just 15 away from the center of Cape Coral. Technically its located on a smaller island East of Pine Island along Matlacha Pass. It is surrounded by water and its not surprising that it is above all and originally a fishing village with a striving artist community.

First there is Tom Watson, a gritty 59 year old, who against all odds is leading the British Open. Say what? Isn’t that guy on the senior tour? Granted he won 5 British Open and can still bombed it over 300 feet….but the last PGA major he won was in 1987! Okay so the first day I shoots a 65. Sure we all know that Tom Watson can shoot a low score.That he is still fit and limber.But a 70 on the second day on a semi rainy cold windy day? The same day number one player in the world was sent packing home with a 73? Got to be kidding. By the way one of his playing partner was 43 years younger….and Tom out drove him and showed him how to play a link course.After all he did win 5 British Open. Is he going to win? Slim chance…if he finishes in the top 5 that would already be amazing.So now in my early 50’s I feel young again. Bless you Tom.After the round I went and biked around the island of Fort Myers Beach. Had to stretch first though but I am sure he inspired many boomers out there. he was asked if he thought he could win. He answered” I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think so.”
Then there is Sir Paul McCartney. He just performed on top of the Ed Sullivan Marquee/Live on Letterman.It was a mini concert and Paul was in great form. I thought what the ? This old rocker is 67 year old! I’ve had mixed feelings about Paul’s ability to sing with enough strength in the last 20 years.Sometimes he hits it, sometimes I think: :”give it a rest!” But that day he showed that he had plenty of energy and range in his voice regardless of your musical taste. I specially like his rendition of “Let me roll it”. The crowd did to. All ages applauded loudly after that song. So the old rock and roller music hall of famer/ ex Beatles did it again. Have you ever tried to sing a bunch of songs on top of your lungs? Not easy. That was pretty cool to watch the New York crowd stopped in its steps, gathered by the thousands and along the buildings, hundreds of silhouettes from the high rises filling up the window glass.Pretty cool for an old dude.Pretty cool for anyone who can stop New York for awhile. Paul McCartney mini concert in NYC So enjoy and grab the day or as they used to say Carpe Diem!….that would be “seize the day”. The 2 old dudes made me smile.
